Upgrade Your WordPress Website

WordPress can do almost anything, which is how many sites end up with a heavy theme, dozens of plugins and pages that are slow and fragile. Updates break things, security patches never stop, and nobody wants to touch the code. We upgrade WordPress sites to fast, secure builds: a custom Next.js site, headless WordPress, or a clean WordPress rebuild with only what you need.

Signs You've Outgrown WordPress

Plugin overload

Every feature is another plugin, and each one adds weight, conflicts and another thing to update. Some are no longer maintained.

Security patches that never end

Most WordPress vulnerabilities come from plugins: Patchstack recorded 7,966 new WordPress vulnerabilities in 2024, 96% of them in plugins. Fewer moving parts means fewer holes.

Slow pages

Page builders and bundled scripts drag down load times and Core Web Vitals, which affects both conversions and search rankings.

Updates you’re afraid to run

When a core or plugin update might break the site, updates get skipped, and the site gets less secure every month.

What We Upgrade You To

We recommend the option that fits how your team will update the site, not the one that's easiest for us to build.

Custom Next.js site

A fast, pre-rendered site with full control over SEO, structured data and integrations. It’s what codemaya.com runs on.

Headless CMS

Your team edits content in a friendly CMS (including WordPress), while visitors get a fast custom front end.

Lean WordPress rebuild

For teams that want to stay on WordPress: a clean theme and only the plugins you need, built to stay fast and easy to update.

Moving Off WordPress: What's Different

  • WordPress gives full access to your content and database, so pages, posts, media, authors and categories move across intact.
  • If your team likes the WordPress editor, we can keep it as a headless CMS and put a fast custom front end in front of it. You edit as before; visitors get a faster, more secure site.
  • We keep URLs the same wherever possible and redirect any that change, so existing rankings and backlinks carry over.

How the Migration Works

  1. 1

    Audit

We review your current site, its traffic and rankings in Google Search Console, integrations and content, then recommend a target and give a fixed quote.

  2. 2

    Redirect map

Every existing URL, including blog posts and images that rank, is mapped to its new address with a permanent (301) redirect.

  3. 3

    Design and build

We rebuild your design or refresh it, then build the new site with SEO metadata, structured data and Core Web Vitals checked page by page.

  4. 4

    Content migration

Pages, posts, images and products move across, with titles and descriptions kept so rankings carry over.

  5. 5

    Launch

We switch DNS without touching your email, activate redirects, and submit the new sitemap to Google Search Console.

  6. 6

    After launch

We watch crawl errors, rankings and traffic in the weeks after launch and fix anything that slips.

WordPress Migration FAQs

Should I rebuild on WordPress or move to something else?

It depends on how you use the site. If editors rely on WordPress and the problems are mostly plugins and theme bloat, a clean WordPress rebuild or headless WordPress keeps the editor you know. If the site is mostly marketing pages and speed and security matter most, a custom Next.js site is usually the better long-term choice. We recommend one after auditing your site.

What is headless WordPress?

Your team keeps editing content in WordPress, but visitors see a separate, custom-built front end that loads the content through an API. The public site gets faster and the WordPress admin is no longer exposed to the internet.

Will my SEO survive the upgrade?

Yes, when the migration is planned. We keep URLs where possible, 301-redirect any that change, carry over titles, descriptions and structured data, and monitor Google Search Console after launch.

Can you fix my existing WordPress site instead?

Sometimes that’s the right answer. Our audit covers whether cleanup (removing plugins, replacing the theme, fixing performance) is enough before recommending a rebuild.

How long does a WordPress upgrade take?

It depends on the size of the site and its integrations. We give a timeline and fixed quote after the audit.
